Tube Vent Cleaners (1950)
Piccadilly, London. Brief shot of Piccadilly Circus at night. Good M, S of a policeman walking around the ticket hall of Piccadilly Circus tube station. One of the concrete slabs on the ground is moved and a man, Mr Bloomfield, covered in dust and wearing a face respirator appears from under it. Commentator explains the man is one of a team of six men who work in nontraffic hours to clean out the ventilation plants in the London Underground system. We see him crawling through vent systems, cleaning the greasy dust out with a brush and hear that there are large amounts of human hair in some parts of the vents yuck The man climbs through a vent cover and joins his teammates for a cup of tea on the station concourse.
