NS 3170 Southern Hertiage Unit SD40 highhood IORY passenger special DTI

NS 3170 was built as Southern Railway SOU 3170 in 1971, the first SD40 high nose built for railroad. Sometime between 2006 and 2007 the locomotive was retired from service, stored in a deadline at Altoona Pa. The bulk of the straight SD40 s were scrapped but this one was saved with DNS (do not scrap ) spray painted on its fuel tank for years In early 2015 the unit was pulled into the shop and put through a rebuild restoring it to as delivered Southern livery.
