Elena Topalidou Appalachian Spring: Homage to Martha Graham
Thirteen musicians of the Greek National Opera Orchestra perform one of the most famous works of American composer Aaron Copland, in the big Orchestra Rehearsal Hall at the SNFCC, keeping a twometer distance from each other, while the heartbreaking solo of prominent Greek dance figure Elena Topalidou in an Athenian forest is a small tribute to Martha Graham, thanks to whom Coplands leading work was created. Seventysix years after its premiere in New York, Appalachian Spring still keeps signalling musics great simplicity and immediacy, and contemporarys dance timeless power.
