OP DE KOFFIE, 10 Denisse Vargas
I first heard Denisse Vargas sing on a jamsession and I was flabergasted. Where was such a voice hiding all this time Shes an adventurous soul, who left her homecountry Mexico and landed in Belgium. I just love her singing, reminiscent of the great Latin American singers of the likes of Chavella Vargas. I also love her musical taste and visual art work. Check her band Ave de Barro, its so beautiful. As you can see in the video, it was much fun doing this session. Chalenging for me, but so nice to accompany such powerful voice and such beautiful songs. These songs are Lhasa de Sela s El desierto, and Afro Peruvian classic Maria Lando composed by Chabuca Granda on a poem by Cesar Calvo. As alsways, listen with headphones or decent speakers, dont miss out on the yummy bass the Whammypedal conjured out of my kalimba. Op de koffie means so much as visiting for a cup of coffee in my mother tongue, Dutch. In 2023, I will be inviting 27 people to meet
