ep43 Sailing Long Island Shelter Island Greenport Hallberg Rassy 54 Cloudy Bay Sep 2018
s, v Cloudy Bay (HallbergRassy 54) left Sag Harbor on the south fork of eastern Long Island, heading for Greenport on the north fork. On the way we stop in West Neck, Shelter Island, where we run aground as we entered the lagoon. Luckily the tide was rising but not fast enough to avoid several interested onlookers including 2 police boats who decided to interrogate us right when we didnt need that After flying the drone over the spectacular views of Shelter Island we departed West Neck and headed to Greenport via what we chose to call the Motor Boat Highway. At Greenport we met Dennis and Cathy on their HR 36, Endeavor. They had been following us on social media and heard when we called on VHF. Greenport was a very pleasant downtoearth town after the obvious exuberance of the Hamptons. A lovely place to visit on a late summers afternoon. Finally, a tranquil anchorage in Orient Bay before we headed for shelter as the remnants of Hurricane Florence greets us the next days. 1617 September 2018
