MGM Jackie the Lion Logo History (1928 1976)
Jackie is the second lion used in Metro Goldwyn Mayer logo after Slats. He was introduced in 1928 and was used untill 1956 with one comeback in 1976. In total I found 13 versions of the logo, every one is different. Jackie was born in Sudan in 1915, and moved to US when he was a cub. In 1928 at the age of 13 (old lion) he debuted as a first MGM roaring lion. He survived many disasters such a plane crash, earthquake and many others, so he was nicknamed Leo the Lucky. In 1931 he moved to Philadelphia Zoo, where he died in February 1935 due to health problems. He was used in logo untill 1956, when he was replaced by George the Lion.
