The bet on the new ZIL170 model, which the plant had been developing for many years, with the parallel production of old products, did not materialize. Developments on the ZIL170, on which all efforts were thrown, were eventually transferred to the newly built KamAZ. As a result, ZIL was left with the old model ZIL130 and two frozen projects ZIL133 and ZIL169, the development of which stopped at the initial stages. A new model was needed. In order to somehow expand and update the range, the ZIL133 model was updated, however, in essence, it was the same old ZIL130 model, only threeaxle. After the release of ZIL133, the plant returned to the development of ZIL169. The project was going hard, since the plant was mastering for the first time a new diesel engine of its own design.
