SANSARA, O Quam Gloriosum Tomás Luis de Victoria ( LIVE)
, Victoria Published in 1572 in his first collection of motets, O quam gloriosum by the Spanish Renaissance composer, Tomás Luis de Victoria (15481611) is notable for being freely composed, rather than based on some preexisting Gregorian chant, and for its balanced mix of polyphonic and homophonic textures. Victoria captures the excitement of somebody entering the kingdom of heaven for the first time: a feeling echoed by us as we performed the piece together after many months apart. O quam gloriosum est regnum, in quo cum Christo gaudent omnes Sancti Amicti stolis albis, sequuntur Agnum, quocumque ierit. O how glorious is the kingdom in which all the saints rejoice with Christ, clad in robes of white they follow the Lamb wherever he goes. Performed by SANSARA, conducted by Tom Herring. Live performance of Tomás Luis de Victoria s O Quam Gloriosum, recorded at the Wiltshire Music Centre, Bradford on Avon (UK) on Saturday 19 June, 2021.
