Subscribe to our channel Thousands of demonstrators took to Istanbul s streets on Saturday to protest Turkey s decision to pull out of the Istanbul Convention, an international agreement put in place to help protect women from domestic violence. The move sparked outrage in Turkey, not only for the decision itself but also for the secretive way it was made, overnight on Friday night. I think we re being provoked by making a decision like this at 2:00 a. m. in a country where so many murders against women have been committed. I don t think it s rational in any way to do something like this at a time like this, said protester Sultan Cogalan. The Istanbul agreement was signed in 2011 by Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu. It s function is to try to halt the killing of women and girls.
