May 8 in Ukraine, as well as in the world, is the Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation, dedicated to the memory of the victims of World War II. The Assembly also emphasized that this historic event set the stage for the creation of the United Nations, designed to save future generations from the stagnation of war, and called on the UN Member States to join forces in the fight against new challenges and threats and to do everything possible to resolve all disputes by peaceful means, in accordance with the UN Charter, and in a manner that does not further endanger international peace and security. In Ukraine, the Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation is established in accordance with the Law of Ukraine On Perpetuating the Victory over Nazism in the Second World War of 19391945. Thus, Ukraine has started a new tradition of celebrating May 8 and 9 in the European spirit of remembrance and reconciliation.
