The farright Alternative for Germany party has won Sunday s election in the eastern state of Thuringia, a region where it s considered by German intelligence to be an extremist organization that threatens democracy. At a national level, it s also being investigated for possible extremism. The party, known as AfD, won just under a third of the votes in the state.
