A New Dimension to Ancient Measures Introducing A New Unit of Length, Peter Harris Thomas Gough
The primary purpose of the book and this lecture is to establish that the unit of length, the HSMF, (Harris and Stockdale Megalithic Foot) at 1. 1785 feet, as deduced by Peter Harris and Norman Stockdale, was known and used in prehistoric Britain. In the book, A New Dimension to Ancient Measures, the dimensions of stone circles together with other megalithic remains were used to test for the HSMF. An unexpected consequence of this, following confirmation of the HSMF s existence by using independent, computer statistical analysis, is that it has revealed much more about these megalithic structures and the abilities of the builder s than previously thought, with particular reference to their knowledge and use of geometry, astronomy, metrology and social organisation. The lecture presents the relevant data used in the creation of the book plus some new, additional and important information Dr Thomas Gough biography: Following an honours degree in chemistry (with mathematics) at St Andr
