Newcastle v Sunderland, 29th March 1992, Division Two
Newcastle s form had improved dramatically going into this game following the appointment of Kevin Keegan as manager. Keegan had seen his team win 4 and draw 2 of his previous 8 games in charge and were looking good to beat the drop. In the same period, it appeared that sunderland s FA Cup run (they would lose the final to Liverpool) affected their league form with a return of 4 defeats and only 1 win in their previous 6 games. They too were now in a relegation battle. Both would just avoid the drop come the end of the season but Newcastle had the bragging rights in this one.
