Buachaill on Eirne Anne Byrne and Jesse Owens Abbey Tavern
A restored cut from the 1965 LP, The Rafters Ring at the Abbey Tavern, featuring Anne Byrne and Jesse Owens in a live performance of Buachaill o n Eirne aka The Boy from the Erne. Jesse Owens and Anne Byrne were regular performers at the Abbey Tavern in the mid to late 1960 s. Owens and Byrne deliver a wonderful duet performance of this song in the gaelic, delivered as something of a love song but containing some of the oddest and most obtuse lyrics, such as A s n m liom do phg n n bhrg atim ag caitheamh le bliain which apparently translated means, And your kiss is no more to me now than a shoe worn for a year. This video includes photos from the album cover, along with images from an unrelated Anne Byrne and Jesse Owens performance.
