Shurale ballet ( Kazan)
Music: Färit Yarullin Choreography: Leonid Yakobson Aleksandra Elagina, Artem Belov This is a Tartar folk tale. The evil creature Shurale lives in the forest. One day a flock of magic birds arrive. They take off their wings and become girls. One of the wishes to play with the other good spirits of the forest. Shurale steals her wings and attempts to make off with her. A brave hunter arrives to rescue her, and unable to find her wings, she agrees to marry him. The Shurale brings her her wings on her wedding day. Overjoyed she puts them on and tries to fly away, but the Shurale sends a flock of black birds to drive her into his lair and steals her wings again. The hunter arrives and sets fire to the lair, destroying Shurale, but trapping them both in the flames. They find the wings, and he gives them to the girl to enable her to escape. Seeing this gesture as unselfish love, she throws away the wings to perish with him. But the forest comes to their rescue and good spirits put the fire out.
