Lanzamiento del satélite de órbita polar JPSS 2
La NASA lanzará este jueves 10 de noviembre, desde la base Vandenberg de la Fuerza Espacial, en California el Sistema Conjunto de Satélites Polares 2 (JPSS2) de la Administración Nacional de los Océanos y la Atmósfera (NOAA), junto con la prueba de vuelo en órbita baja de un desacelerador inflable (LOFTID) de la agencia. El Sistema Conjunto de Satélites Polares es el satélite medioambiental de órbita polar de última generación. Recopilará datos para las previsiones meteorológicas, ayudando a los científicos a predecir y prepararse para los fenómenos climáticos extremos. Cuando el satélite haya alcanzado la órbita, LOFTID seguirá una trayectoria de reingreso para demostrar la capacidad del escudo térmico inflable de frenar y sobrevivir al proceso. El objetivo de esta tecnología es apoyar las misiones tripuladas y robóticas hacia otros planetas, así como ayudar a devolver a la Tierra cargas útiles más pesadas.
