Diamonds by Chris Rea found its biggest success here in Australia when it made the Top 15 in 1979. I can still recall sitting in our family lounge room playing Chartbusters Vol 1 an EMI records Various Artists Compilation; featuring Chris Rea, Melissa Manchester, Racey, Hot Chocolate and Dr Hook among many others. I had loved Chris Rea s Fool (If You Think It s Over) the year before, so when the rollicking Diamonds was issued in 1979, it was an instant favorite and I m so pleased that Australia got behind it, and Rea visited our shores to promote the song; helping it climb even further on the Top 40. This original (longer) album version from his LP Deltics has simply more to love I ve reedited a performance clip to the extended version. I hope all who discover it, enjoy it as much as I have.
