Toccata and Fugue Patrick Gowers
Toccata and Fugue Patrick Gowers This was played at a family christening in King s College Chapel exactly a month after the composer s 75th birthday by one of his grandsons, Richard Gowers, as a surprise present. To explain: the camcorder did record sound, but instead the sound comes from a higher quality CD recording taken from the main body of the chapel, so the sound of talking comes from tourists in the chapel, not up in the organ loft. The CD recording started just after the first note, so the first two notes of the video use the sound from the camcorder. Simple. I realise that my mouth is open during most of the performance, but I expect that if I hadn t kept it open, I might have forgotten to breathe. Organ playing isn t a renowned spectator sport. I have now had a haircut.
