US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has issued a fresh call for China and the US to engage as responsible leaders. In his speech on the second day of the ShangriLa Dialogue, Austin said that any time is the right time to talk. Austin and his Chinese counterpart Li Shangfu briefly spoke and shook hands at the opening dinner of the defence summit in Singapore. But the US said Beijing had declined its request for a more substantive meeting between Austin and Li on the sidelines of the conference.
