It is also a distributed ledger, but uses a different way to write blocks. Instead of a clear block sequence (blockchain), a hashgraph uses a Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG) that records information nonlinearly, without a sequential chain of blocks. Cryptocurrencies such as IOTA, Byteball and Tangle are already based on DAG. With DAG, the hashgraph promises all the benefits of blockchain, but without its disadvantage of low transaction speeds.
