Why John Brown Really Wasnt A Hero
John Brown is remembered fondly in American history as a martyr who sacrificed himself for the cause of abolition, and often we hear asked is John Brown a hero or a terrorist, with his crusade against slavery very commonly held above the horrendus actions he committed, especially by more liberal historians. Because of this, Brown s crimes and questionable character are swept under the rug or excused in the name of abolition, but if we look past that, simply at John Brown s actions and intentions, we find a man who was either mad or just plain evil. This is why John Brown really wasn t a hero, for his role in the outbreak of the Civil War, for the crimes he committed against civilians, and for his very own conspiracy to secede from the union.
