A longrange acoustic device (LRAD) was deployed and used against peaceful protesters by the Serbian authorities. Also known as a sound cannon, LRADs are specialised loudspeakers used as a method of crowd control. They can emit extremely loud sounds up to 160 decibels and have been known to severely disorientate people and even cause permanent hearing damage. Some people from the protests have even reported a feeling of mild numbness or paralysis long after being hit by the LRAD.
