In Reading, the first episode in the Exploring Korean Literature series, the novel, One Left by author Kim Soom tells a story about comfort women. One Left is the ninth novel written by Kim Soom, who is the winner of the Hyundae Literary Award, Daesan Literary Award, and Yi Sang Literary Award. The novel draws from actual testimonies of Korean comfort women to weave together a heartbreaking tale. Kim Haksun, a comfort woman who went public in 1991 to reveal Japanese crimes during World War II, is mentioned in the first chapter of the novel and hints at the many truths interwoven in the book. One Left is written through the perspective of one former comfort woman in a narrative style as she gradually realizes she could be the last survivor among the comfort women. Even though 80 years have passed since the war has ended, the trauma carried within the comfort women continues to haunt them. Four guests on the show take turns reciting passages in One Left and discuss this tragic chapter in history. On
