PETA activists protest over Faroe Islands pilot whale hunt
PETA activists in Berlin have protested against a controversial pilot whale hunt on the Faroe Islands. At the square near the iconic Brandenburg Gate, some demonstrators dressed as pilot whales and covered themselves in fake blood. They rallied with banners reading Faroe Islands, stop the bloody whale slaughter. According to local authorities in the autonomous Danish territory in the North Atlantic, more than 500 longfinned pilot whales, a large species of oceanic dolphin, have been killed by hunters in Leynar since their hunt resumed in May, as part of a 1, 000yearold Faroese tradition. Although the traditional hunt is noncommercial and authorized, it has long faced opposition from environmental activists.
