The Unconventional Request of a Footballer
Every day, doctors and nurses working on the frontlines risk their lives to save others. Support them by joining us THE BACKGROUND In the last five years alone, we ve counted over 3, 700 attacks on healthcare workers and facilities. Every attack deprives people of muchneeded medical care. In 2020, over 1. 3 million patients were admitted to hospitals supported by the ICRC around the world, while our team performed over 130, 000 surgeries. On the 3rd of May 2016, the UN Security Council adopted its first resolution on the protection of health care in conflict. Resolution 2286, supported by 80 states, included steps states could take to mitigate such attacks. Five years on, access to health care continues to be impeded due to a disregard for international humanitarian law and obstruction or criminalization of the provision of health care in some cases. Additionally, the implementation of measures laid out in the resolution has been weak. With this initiative, we ask for your support
