Comedy Golf In Romford Aka Charity Golf Romford (1938)
Romford, Essex. Several shots of a charity golf match in aid of the Romford Victoria Hospital. Variety double act Bennett and Williams play in the match with variety and radio star Tommy Handley. A crowd of people stand around watching. Williams (I think) engages in some patter with Tommy about how to play golf when he tells Tommy to address the ball Tommy says to it Hello darling, how are you this afternoon . Williams tells a joke about a dentist playing golf and asking the hole to open wider. Offensive moment occurs when Williams asks Tommy what his handicap is and he replies A black wife and six piccaninnies. Tommy takes his first swing at the ball and watches it go. Williams takes his turn and falls on the ground as if ashamed looks like he didn t do too well Note: we don t see much of Bennett in this item; I think he is standing behind Tommy and Williams at one point.
