My Personal Story Minister Maryam Monsef
Democratic Institutions Minister Maryam Monsef spends the day with CPACs Jacqueline Milczarek in the riding of PeterboroughKawartha. It was in this riding and in the central Ontario city of Peterborough where Maryam Monsef and her family settled after arriving in Canada as refugees from wartorn Afghanistan in the 1990s. Monsef, who was first elected in 2015 and was appointed to cabinet shortly afterwards tours her old high school, Peterborough Collegiate Vocational School, PCVS and Trent University where she earned her undergrad degree. Monsef talks candidly about the trials and tribulations of growing up as an immigrant and of how she plans, as an MP and Minister of the Crown, to give back to the community that welcomed her and her family so warmly when she was just a child.
