ClientSide Decorations Initiative (CSD Initiative for short) is an effort to get apps (both GNOME and thirdparty) to drop title bars and switch to use CSD. Unlike sever side decoration CSD are drawn by the apps themselves instead of the display manager, that s allows apps to draw their own title, header bars and to add to it more interesting stuff making them more useful (header bars) to save more space. And the original title bar and window border provided by the window manager are disabled now by Gtk+.
