This video was taken on 15Dec2023 at Silverton NSW, Australia. This is an example of the German Light Field Howitzer 16 used by the German Army in WWI and WWII. It used two part ammunition consisting of High Explosive or Armour Piercing shells and rounds of approximately 14kg weight. Muzzle velocity was about 400m, s. It replaced the 10. 5 cm Feldhaubitze 98, 09, which has a shorter barrel, thus increasing the maximum range from 6, 300m to around 9, 200m. It was designed in 191416 by Rheinmetall, and this example was produced by MAN. In firing configuration it had a weight of about 1, 525kg and a transportation weight, with limber, of 2, 870kg. After WWI many captured examples were used as wat trophies and to equip Allied armies such as Belgium, and were subsequently captured and reemployed by Axis forces in WWII.
