The Army will have a new camouflage for its combat uniforms from 2024. It is the BME for multienvironment camouflage. Designed by the Army Technical Section in partnership with the Army Commissariat, the BME is intended to replace the two main camouflages currently in use: the Central European camouflage and the desert camouflage. This new camouflage is designed to be consistent in terms of both capability and tactics. Unlike the old camouflage, which had a panel of 34 colors in broken shapes, this one will be multienvironment, i. e., it includes 6 colors of mixed broken shapes. These colors respond to a principle of fusion, attenuated by gradients, with branches and discrete geometric forms. Initial design work began within the Army in March 2016. The developed graphic was benchmarked against a panel of contemporary bariolages. Operational performance and aesthetics were selected as the central criteria.
