Lopera si trova ora allAlte Pinakothek di Monaco. Catalogato inizialmente con il titolo Ratto delle Sabine, il dipinto divenne noto a partire dalla fine del Settecento come Ratto delle figlie di Leucippo. Il mito che la tela raffigura dovrebbe essere quello del rapimento delle Leucippidi a opera dei Dioscuri, narrato nella letteratura antica tra i tanti da Apollodoro e da Teocrito. La vicenda è quella di Ilaira e Febe, le due figlie del re di Tessaglia Leucippo, che vengono rapite dai gemelli Castore e Polluce, con lo scopo di sposarle. È stata avanzata però anche unaltra interpretazione dellopera, come raffigurazione di un altro mito, quello appunto del Ratt
