Three is not a crowd when Aurora, Anana, and Kulu are together While polar bears are typically solitary in their native range except for mothers and cubs, as sisters who have lived together since birth, Aurora and Anana have always enjoyed spending time together, as well as with male bears, Nanuq and Lee, previously. Aurora and Anana had been living separately while Aurora focused on raising her cub, Kulu, who was born on Thanksgiving Day in 2019. This week, Anana was reunited with her sister and met her nephew, Kulu, in person for the first time. Very detailed planning went into each phase of these introductions, and everything is going well. The polar bears care team, who continues to closely observe them, has seen positive and appropriate signs and behaviors between the bears. By providing all of these individual bears with the opportunity to live together, it is hoped that it will positively affect their overall welfare.
