Deep Fakes being used for political misinformation is just a matter of time, says Dr Hany Farid. The University of Berkeley professor told the UKs fact checking charity that leading figures in techenabled misinformation believe that is just a matter of time as technology advances. Deep Fakes use Artificial Intelligence to synthesise someones likeness onto another person. In recent years, a number of celebrities and public figures have been the subject of this type of video editing. Full Fact, which works to tackle the spread of harmful and misleading information, has yet to come across any instances of Deep Fake videos in its fact checking. Tom Phillips, the Editor of Full Fact told podcast host Alexis Conran that there were cheaper and easier means of misinformation available.
