David Whitfield Answer Me (1953)

Charted at, 1 on UK Singles chart in November 1953. The BBC put out a partial ban on this recording because of the religious theme in the lyrics. It was considered inappropriate at the time to make religious references in a pop song. As a result, David rerecorded this song as Answer Me, My Love, hence the title on the sheet music in the photo. Answer Me was a, 1 UK hit for both David Whitfield and Frankie Laine and Billboard Pop Top 10 in the US for Nat King Cole in 1953, 1954. Written by Gerhard Winkler, Fred Rauch Carl Sigman.
