La historia de la cruenta y solitaria guerra de Rusia, con sus de bajas militares y civiles, narrada por una ama de casa de Leningrado, que sobrevivió al asedio de 890 días, desde septiembre de 1941, hasta enero de 1944. Ella está de acuerdo en que fue muy afortunada por haber sobrevivido. En su ciudad, de tres millones de habitantes, personas murieron bajo el fuego alemán y cerca de de frío o hambre. Increíblemente los rusos, no sólo sobrevivieron, sino que consiguieron derrotar a los alemanes.
