Carmontelle (17171806) est un officier au service des Orléans qui représente les hôtes du PalaisRoyal à la pierre noire, à la gouache et à laquarelle. Nicole Garnier, conservateur générale du Patrimoine chargée du musée Condé, nous fait découvrir ce dessinateur amateur mais amateur éclairé du XVIIIe siècle qui a fait poser devant lui la société de son temps, selon les Goncourt.
