Belal previously struck the French overseas territory of Reunion before heading towards Mauritius. Social media widely shares videos of cars sinking and streets submerged in rushing water. The Mauritius International Airport announces its closure until further notice due to the cyclone. Banks, government institutions, and private businesses have also shut down in response. Authorities advise the population to stay in safe places as torrential rains are expected in the coming hours.
