Children of the Frozen Tundra, Short Doc
The Nenets are an indigenous people who still live like their nomadic ancestors did centuries ago. To this day, they are constantly herding reindeer across the vast frozen tundra of the Russian Arctic. Children follow their parents from birth, learning everything about life in the tundra. But from autumn to spring, they live at boarding schools to get an education in towns, just like other Russian children. While some Nenets children become accustomed to comfortable urban life, others miss home so much they run away and go back to their families on foot. The separation is also difficult for many parents, and some would prefer to have their kids nearby. Hear what Nenets children and their parents have to say in our short doc.
