Canyon Of Fire Eruption and CME New Sunspot Is Crackling With M Class Solar Flares

November 1, 2023. A solar magnetic filament erupted on Halloween night, carving a canyon of fire in the sun s southern hemisphere. The event produced an impressive CME. Analysis and modeling efforts determined the bulk of the ejecta to be south with a nearby passing of Earth on November 5, 2023. However, another source of activity is turning toward our planet. Suddenly, the southeastern limb of the sun is crackling with activity. Images from NASA s Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) show a cluster of Mclass and nearMclass solar flares during the opening hours of Nov. 1st. The source of the explosions is sunspot AR3477 and a magneticallyconnected farside sunspot still hidden behind the edge of the sun. The blast sites will turn toward Earth in the days ahead producing a source of potentially geoeffective flares this weekend.
