Mere days away from the federal election, Statistics Canada dropped an economic bomb: the consumer price index, which is used to calculate inflation, rose 4. 1 per cent in August compared to a year earlier. It marks the fifth month in a row that inflation has surpassed the Bank of Canadas (BoC) target rate of two per cent and the countrys highest rate since March 2003.
