Made famous as a backdrop by director John Ford in a series of films like Stagecoach, The Searchers and Fort Apache, the Navajo lands of Monument Valley National Monument, which borders the ArizonaUtah border, is a magical place held holy by the Navajo Nation. Tourists may drive through a section of the valley, but to truly see it, you must do it by horseback in order to get into the farreaching canyons and valleys within the confines of the national monument that few but the Navajos ever see.
