MUTPROBE MARIUPOL: Warum Wladimir Putin kurz vor Xi Jinpings Besuch in die Ukraine reist
Der russische Präsident Wladimir Putin hat die nach schweren Kämpfen im Mai vergangenen Jahres besetzte ukrainische Hafenstadt Mariupol besucht. Putin traf nach Berichten russischer Nachrichtenagenturen am Samstagabend mit einem Hubschrauber in Mariupol ein und fuhr dann mit einem Auto durch die Stadt. Er betrat damit erstmals ein Gebiet in der Ukraine, das von Russland im September illegal annektiert wurde. Zuvor besuchte er zum neunten Jahrestag der Annexion die Halbinsel Krim. Putin besichtigte in Mariupol Gedenkstätten, die Konzerthalle und die Küste, wie es in den Berichten hieß. Im NewskyjDistrikt der Hafenstadt habe er Anwohner getroffen; der staatliche Fernsehsender Rossija 24 zeigte, wie er mit Zivilisten vor einem offenbar neugebauten Wohnkomplex sprach und sich eine der Wohnungen zeigen ließ.
