Receding Animal (2022)

Receding Animal is an experimental film produced by Sasha Lukashenkova and Alex Thake. It shows the room with eight baboons, filmed from behind the glass. The voiceover cites the passages out of archival patient files diagnosed with hysteria during 1930s in Hesse medical facilities. The scenes from patients personal lives subtly resonate with situation of monotony on the screen, while formal language of the medical files revokes dehumanising gaze of normality, at the time when the German society was reaching the furthest point towards state fascism.
