Forced relaminarisation in a pipe
Forced relaminarisation in a pipe Jakob Kühnen, IST Austria Philipp Maier, IST Austria Björn Hof, IST Austria DOI: We show that a simple modification of the velocity profile in a pipe by means of a stationary obstacle can lead to a complete collapse of turbulence and the flow fully relaminarises. In a smooth straight pipe the flow remains laminar downstream of the control. High amounts of energy (pumping power due to friction drag) can be saved if the flow is laminar instead of turbulent.
