Dr Francesca Leoni: Portents, Presages and Predictions: Art and Divination in Pre Modern Iran

Building on the exhibition Power and Protection: Islamic Art and the Supernatural, this lecture uses a selection of fine objects and works of art to comment on the cultural significance of prophecy. Dr Leoni curated this exhibition, at the Ashmolean Museum, which was the first largescale installation to consider the impact of divinatory and amuletic practices on Islamic art and material culture.
