A large group of Punchinelli by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo to be auctioned
Amongst important art works in our auction Weston Hall and the Sitwells: A Family Legacy, we have this important Old Master drawing. It is by one of the greatest decorative painters of eighteenthcentury Europe, the Italian artist Giovanni Battista Tiepolo (16961770). The work features Punchinelli, the hooknosed, humpbacked clowns who were one of the stock characters taken from the 17th century commedia dell arte. It was purchased by the Sitwells in 1936 and has remained in the family collection ever since. It is estimated to fetch 150, 000200, 000 (+ fees).
