Tony Bennett, pseudonym of Anthony Dominick Benedetto (New York, August 3, 1926 New York, July 21, 2023), was an American singer, considered the last great American crooner after the deaths of Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and Perry Como. His father was a shopkeeper who in 1906 emigrated to the United States from Italy Podàrgoni, near (Reggio Calabria) his mother was a seamstress who was born in the United States soon after the emigration of her parents, who were also from Calabria. Bennett boasts a career of over seventy years and is the winner, among others, of 20 Grammy Awards (including one for his career in 2001) and 2 Emmy Awards. With over 100 albums under his belt, he was named NEA Jazz Master and a Kennedy Center Honors member.
