Joel Thomas The 3 D and Motion Design Show
Joel walks through his process on creating a short animation to break down at the 3D Motion Design Show. He will show an example of how a project can go from initial thumbnail sketches to building geometry, organizing, animating, and rendering with techniques often used on projects at Territory. He will demonstrate how scenes were built using the polygon pen, CVSplines, and Cloners and how it was animated with help from Xpresso and IK rigging. Finally, how layered animations are divided into takes and rendered with tokens to be combined into a final look. As kids, Joel Thomas and his brothers would sit at the kitchen table and draw on sheets of oldschool, perforated printer paper. Then, he got his start in 3D when he was in high school by dabbling in mods for computer games. Now, he can survive for months off nothing but the dew of a single ginkgo leaf and the energy of the universe.
