GI tract hollow organs range from mouth to anus. GI system includes mouth, oesophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, and anus. Your digestive tract converts food into energy and nutrients. Your body requires food and drinks to stay healthy and function properly. Nutrients include carbs, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals, and water. Your digestive tract absorbs food and liquid nutrients for energy, growth, and cell repair. Mouth, oesophagus, stomach, intestines, rectum, and anus are digestive organs. Mouth is where digestion begins. Premeal digestion trigger salivary glands. Chewing helps digestion. Saliva helps digest meals. Swallowing moves food from the tongue into the throat and oesophagus. The oesophagus is placed near to trachea (windpipe).
