Erik Satie 1914 Les Trois Valses Distinguées du Précieux Dégoûté
The fastidious dandy here is thought to be Maurice Ravel, with whom Satie had recently fallen out. The charming second piece of the set, Son binocle, can be seen and played as a latterday gymnopédie et was perhaps a reference back to Les entretiens de la Belle et la Bête (from Ravel s Ma mère l oye suite), which had been hailed to the Fourth gymnopédie when it appeared in 1910. pf: JeanYves Thibaudet 0:00 Sa taille 0:59 Son binocle 1:55 Ses jambes
